16th Annual BC Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Conference

The Healing Our Spirit BC Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Society has announced the 16th Annual BC Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Conference:

Weaving Collectively the Intricacies of HIV/AIDS through Culture and Knowledge
April 16-17, 2012
Kamloops Convention Centre, Kamloops, B.C.

The goals of the conference are:

  • to provide an opportunity for people to share information and experiences related to HIV/AIDS
  • to offer successful models for providing HIV/AIDS prevention education, care and support to Aboriginal communities
  • to provide models for integrating cultural and traditional practices into prevention education
  • to create an awareness for Aboriginal people to learn about and gain a better understanding of HIV/AIDS issues for Aboriginal people living with HIV/AIDS and their families

Workshop presenters are also invited to share their knowledge, skills and experience in supporting the cultural strengths of Aboriginal People in the following areas:

  • research  
  • mental health issues related to HIV/AIDS
  • prevention of HIV/AIDS approaches/best practices
  • stigma/legal and human rights issues
  • spirituality/sexuality and gender issues
  • treatment, care and support
  • healthy living choices
  • youth empowerment
  • culture
  • aboriginal people living with HIV/AIDS empowering stories

All proposals should be submiited by Monday 27 February 2012.
