16th Annual BC Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Conference
The Healing Our Spirit BC Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Society has announced the 16th Annual BC Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Conference:
“Weaving Collectively the Intricacies of HIV/AIDS through Culture and Knowledge”
April 16-17, 2012
Kamloops Convention Centre, Kamloops, B.C.
The goals of the conference are:
- to provide an opportunity for people to share information and experiences related to HIV/AIDS
- to offer successful models for providing HIV/AIDS prevention education, care and support to Aboriginal communities
- to provide models for integrating cultural and traditional practices into prevention education
- to create an awareness for Aboriginal people to learn about and gain a better understanding of HIV/AIDS issues for Aboriginal people living with HIV/AIDS and their families

Workshop presenters are also invited to share their knowledge, skills and experience in supporting the cultural strengths of Aboriginal People in the following areas:
- research
- mental health issues related to HIV/AIDS
- prevention of HIV/AIDS approaches/best practices
- stigma/legal and human rights issues
- spirituality/sexuality and gender issues
- treatment, care and support
- healthy living choices
- youth empowerment
- culture
- aboriginal people living with HIV/AIDS empowering stories
All proposals should be submiited by Monday 27 February 2012.
