Giant Food Stores announce recall
Giant Food Stores on Monday announced a recall of Daniella mangos.
The product, purchased between July 12 and Aug. 24, was recalled because of possible salmonella contamination.
Its price-look-up code is PLU 4959.
Salmonella can cause salmonellosis - one of the most common bacterial foodborne illnesses. It can cause fatal infections in individuals with weakened immune systems, such as infants, the elderly, those infected with HIV and patients receiving chemotherapy, according to the company. Symptoms include diarrhea, abdominal cramps and fever within eight to 72 hours of consumption. Chills, headache, nausea and vomiting may also be experienced for seven days.
Giant has received reports of illnesses in Canada, associated with the product, and is advising customers to discard unused portions, the company said. Customers may also take their purchase receipt to Giant for a full refund.
