Alex Tam

Since 1980, Alex has worked as a pharmacist in the Downtown Eastside community, providing seamless and professional health care to Vancouver’s most marginalized group.

Known as the “Eastside Buddah” and also as “Patch Alex” (as in the movie “Patch Adams”), Alex has built a notable reputation by supporting local shelters, by educating residents about HIV/AIDS care, and by providing personal outreach to vulnerable clients.

With almost 250 HIV-positive clients, his collaboration with the STOP HIV/AIDS team has been an invaluable resource in the prevention and treatment of HIV.
